STORM100-7StarLake Launches the Mission Ready Tactical Tablet for Today’s Battlefield

- November 24, 2020

Today’s modern battlefield is advancing at pace, particularly within the unmanned environment, be it with Unmanned Air System (UAS) or Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV). Traditionally, a single-use bespoke controller is used to operate this capability. STORM 100 allows the operator a multi-function capability, allowing for additional sub-system application due to its extensive and diverse connectivity array and high spec CPU and data storage capability; true value for money. STORM100 is a fully ruggedised MIL-Standard, IP65, multi-function tablet that enables rapid connection with Fischer as standard. The connected systems can be controlled and operated directly from the tablet by using the 3D joystick, 6 programmable soft touch function keys and multi-touch screen.

Powered by the Intel® Core™ i7-7600U processor that enables excellent CPU performance, multiple applications can be used on the tablet. Equipped with dual capacity batteries, STORM 100 gives truly exceptional longevity that meets the users’ needs for extended mission duration.

STORM100 is perfect for low light/no light tactical operations as it has a unique Night Vision Device Mode (NVDM) that enables the tablet to be used in conjunction with traditional Night Vision Imaging Systems, providing clear and unobstructed vision. STORM100 also features a 1000 Nit brightness 10.1” resistive multi-touch screen with the optical bonding trait technology enabling operation even in the brightest of conditions.

Key Features
  • 1000 Nits – Sunlight-Readable.
  • NVDM enabled.
  • 3D Joystick for Control & Operation.
  • Intel i7-7600U Processor (3.9 GHz).
  • 4 Channel Frame Grabber Support.
  • IP65 Conduction Cooling for silent operation.
  • Touch Screen
  • 6 Programmable Function Keys

The integrated vision system with frame grabber card enables operators to capture and store data for future analysis. STORM100 is equipped with a 3D Joystick, a device which is simple yet agile and can control and operate drones, unmanned platforms or ground/platform mast mounted pan-tilt and sensor systems with pin point precision. A truly software defined device that that can be used to operate all systems, whilst also being used to enable added situational awareness through high end digital mapping and targeting software.

To ensure the competence of the tablet, it has passed several military standards to ensure its operability in austere military environments. IP65 rated, this multi-functional tablet can be customised to meet the needs of the user, from cable connectors to wireless options. It also meets MIL-STD 461 and MIL-STD 810, guaranteeing its ability to perform in all conditions.

As a prominent pioneer specialising in rugged computing products, 7StarLake has pedigree in producing rugged tablets. STORM100, one of our masterpieces at 7StarLake, can support 9V~32V in-vehicle DC. Asides from other outstanding features such as Core i7-7600U processor, 1 x COM (RS232/422/485) it also has internal supporting gyroscope sensors. These integrated gyroscope sensors are frequently used to detect the directional orientation of the device. Fischer connectors, a type of smaller connector that is ideally suited for the military market, is integrated onto STORM100. STORM100 also supports 1 x LAN, 1 x HDMI, 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0, and all of them can be Fischer interface optional. These concentric-circle connectors with 360° mating and easy cleaning features optimise the competence, versatility, and performance of STORM100 in an innovative way. Our Design Team can easily integrate any new connectors bespoke to the users attached sub-systems.

Applied Scenarios

Tethered Drones Management System

Since the mass introduction of drones, their defence and security importance have become progressively prevalent, both in an offensive and defensive capability. While traditional man-portable drones have become increasingly useful for forward reconnaissance, battery life can limit the effectiveness because the drone will constantly be brought down to replace the battery, which will provide time gaps for the surveillance. On the other hand, tethered drones are not constrained by battery life, providing constant views of an area without any halts for recharging.

In Defence and Law Enforcement fields, tethered drones are utilised as an integral part of their layered approach to both STA and security operations due to their capability to cover large areas at once. The operators can monitor activities from the live feedback transmitted to the tablet in all environments, night and day. STORM100 is armed with a command and control joystick to allow the operation of any connected sensor. Given the capability that all sensors such as radars and STA sensors can be configured in STORM100, the 3D joystick, programmable function keys and touch screen capability gives the user maximum flexibility and control to manipulate all attached system functionality.

Mast Mounted Surveillance and Target Acquisition

Instead of being merely an information display, the tablet is an integrated computer system, a platform capability which can adjust the position of the device and utilise its capability. This solution provides the additional functionality to allow other capabilities to be integrated into the system, including map overlays and meshed targeting software. Operating the STORM 100 and integrated software, the operator can monitor, assess, report and act upon their area of responsibility and beyond traditional line of sight battlefields, whilst informing a wider audience for further strategic planning.
